Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine focused on the digestive system. 

Often referred to as “GI” physicians, gastroenterologists treat diseases and disorders that effect the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus (swallowing tube), stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), rectum, liver, gallbladder and pancreas.  GI specialists treat diseases and disorders such as reflux, stomach ulcers, malnutrition, Crohn's disease and inflammatory colon conditions.  GI procedures performed at Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital include:
